PREVIEW: McGregor vs Mayweather
By: BryceAll right, here we go. Everyone knew this was coming. This is the next thing on the UFC calendar, and, while overdone, it is a necessary thing. Let’s get this going.
To start off, this fight is not a true fight in the sense that it is an even matchup. Physically, Conor has the obvious advantage. He is younger, taller, longer, and heavier than Floyd. Skill and experience obviously is in Floyd’s favor. He has been in the sport his whole life and been at the highest level of the sport for a long time. So what could happen?
Floyd simply has to do what he’s done for years to win the Fight of the Century. He is a defensive genius and has made boxing’s elite look silly. He has mastered boxing and knows what things he has to do to secure a decision. In recent fights, he has gone away from destroying guys and now opts for systematically dismantling his opponent’s offense, sometimes coming off as boring to spectators. He has nothing to prove to the sport, unless he wants to prove a point that boxers are superior. If he does that, however, he has to be careful of Mystic Mac…
Conor McGregor has a little more than a puncher’s chance here. Regardless of what anyone says, Conor can HIT. He has very unorthodox movement, maybe enough that it’ll confuse Floyd enough to get close and hurt him. He has a unique ability to slide in and out, as seen with the Aldo knockout. He also has the physical advantage. All of these things lead to the fact that this is something to watch. There are too many unknown variables to say with 100% certainty what’s going to happen on August 26th. I don’t know what’s going to happen, but you can bet your sweet ass that I will be tuning in and finding out.
