The Odds: UFC 217
By: Buju(FYI: these odds are from BestFightOdds.com and according to where they were on the morning of October 31) UFC 217 is right around the corner and, as you'd assume with one of the biggest cards of the year, there's been a lot of gambling interest in the event. That said, here's the odds breakdown for Saturday's PPV: GSP (-125) is holding steady as the very slight favorite over Michael Bisping (+100/EVEN) with a few days left before the fight. St Pierre has been the favorite in every fight since his loss to Matt Serra, and is 12-0 in those fights. This is, however, the least favored he's ever been by sportsbooks. In those 12 previous fights only once was he less than a -200 favorite, -180 in his second fight with BJ Penn. Bisping is used to role, having been the underdog in 9 of his last 24 bouts... but is just 3-6 in those 9. He did, however, overcome the tallest odds of his career just 2 fights ago (+590) with his championship winning upset of Luke Rockhold.
Champion Cody Garbrandt is the favorite (-185) in the Bantamweight title matchup against former Team Alpha Male teammate TJ Dillashaw (+150). In his short 6-fight UFC career thus far, "No Love" has split his role in the betting odds: 3 times as a favorite and 3 times as the underdog. Obviously 6-0 in those fights, he ranged from as far as a -780 favorite against Henry Briones in his 2nd UFC fight to a +210 underdog against Dominick Cruz in his last fight. Dillashaw is heading into his 14th UFC fight, but only his 2nd time as an underdog. It did turn out well for him the last time though... he overcame +765 odds to beat Renan Barao for the Championship.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk will look to defend her belt for the 6th time as a -500 favorite, the largest on the card. Her opponent, Rose Namajunas will challenge for the Strawweight championship for the 2nd time in her career as a +350 underdog. The undefeated champion Jedrzejczyk has been the favorite in 6 of her 8 UFC bouts (she was +280 in her first fight with Claudia Gadelha, and a +150 underdog when she took the belt from Carla Esparza), climbing to as high as a -1200 favorite against Valerie Latourneau. Namajunas comes in as the underdog for the 2nd consecutive time and the 3rd time overall in her 7th career UFC fight. She's 2-0 thus far as the betting underdog, however this is by far the largest deficit she's faced with +125 against Paige VanZant being the next biggest.
