UFC 218 Was Awesome (Highlights & Recap)

I can't think of a better way to say it: UFC 218 was awesome. Highlight reel KOs, all-time classic wars and a great championship main event between a young superstar & an all-time legend, this card had it all. The staff here at Untitled MMA was lucky enough to be in the arena for a card that we will not soon forget. I haven't watched the card back yet, but the atmosphere in Detroit was fantastic. With the arena being sold-out and the gate being over $2 million, I don't anticipate the UFC waiting another 7 years to return to the Motor City.

The card started off hot with an exciting KO by "Big Pretty" Justin Willis, who extended his win streak to 6.

The second of four Fight Pass bouts saw another first round finish with Dominick Reyes earning a RNC submission over Jeremy Kimball...

The next fight ended in controversy when referee Herb Dean called a stop when he mistook Sabah Homasi dropping for a takedown for a KO by Abdul Razal Hassan...

Hometown girl Amanda Cooper TKO'd MMA villain Angela Magana...

The highlight of the Felice Herrig/Amanda Cooper fight came near the end of the final round when middle fingers and boogers were exchanged. Herrig ended up winning a split decision.

David Teymur won a fairly uneventful decision over hometown fighter Drakkar Klose...

The next fight was between the always entertaining Cowboy Oliveira and Yancy Medeiros. What transpired over the next 2 rounds and change was an unforgettable firefight between two warriors, and would've been a runaway Fight of the Night on any other card. The highlights below don't do the fight justice in any way. Whatever you have to do, find a way to watch this entire fight...

Paul Felder weathered the other-worldly grappling of Charles "Do Bronx" Oliveira to finish him with brutal ground-and-pound elbows against the cage to close the prelims...

Tecia Torres grinded out a decision win over Michelle Waterson in the opening bout on Pay Per View...

The next fight was another all-time classic between "The Underground King" Eddie Alvarez and Justin Gaethje. Like I said with the Medeiros/Oliveira clip, the video below is the culmination of nearly three full hard-hitting, violent rounds of MMA. Seek out the entire fight when you can...

Henry Cejudo dominated Sergio Pettis with his wrestling to win a unanimous decision...

In the Co-Main event, Francis Ngannou reeled back and blasted Alistair Overeem into another dimension with an UNBELIEVABLE left hand. Dana White later confirmed that Ngannou earned himself a title shot with the victory (3 Reasons Francis Ngannou Will Be UFC Champion)...

And finally, after a night filled with top shelf MMA action, we came to the Championship main event. Jose Aldo stepped in to fight the man who took his belt, Max Holloway, after Frankie Edgar was forced to pull out with an injury. The fight was a back-and-forth affair that ended the same way as their first meeting, Holloway TKO'ing the legend Aldo to take the featherweight championship back to Hawaii...

If, like me, you still haven't got enough of UFC 218... you can check out our work leading up to the card:
