How Khabib Will Win

UFC 229 is this weekend, and the main event is one for the ages: Conor McGregor returns to the UFC for the first time in nearly 2 years to face Khabib Nurmagomedov. There gave been claims of mauling and knockouts from both sides of the exchange, and today we are going to give a scenario where Khabib beats Conor and retains his UFC Lightweight belt.
Before I get into this, I need it to be known how much it pains me to write this and how in every ounce of my being I believe Conor will win, which I wrote about already, but in the sake of playing devil’s advocate, here we go.
On The Ground
It truly is that simple for Khabib. He is going to be seriously outclassed by Conor on the feet, so his best hope is to take him down and keep him there. While he only landed 40% of his 15 attempted takedowns against Al Iaquinta at UFC 223, it is generally accepted he is the best grappler in the division. He also has some of the most brutal ground and pound. Look no further than the Michael Johnson fight, where he had enough energy in between bashing Johnson’s skull in to mock him, saying “give up now,” and the like. However, earlier in that fight, he got clipped by Johnson, so it shows that he NEEDS the fight on the ground to win. If he can get, and keep, Conor pinned to the canvas, that is how Khabib will take the win.
Of course, that won’t happen because Conor is BACK and is going to knock him out in the second with a left hook, but its wishful thinking.
