Untitled MMA Monthly Awards: January 2018

Well it's about that time... time for the Untitled MMA Monthly awards for January 2018. Why are the January awards being posted on Valentine's Day you ask? 14 days in Febuary? Seems a little late, you say. WELL I AM TRYING MY BEST! These Nick Diaz fights in Strikeforce aren't going to watch themselves, you know...

ANYWAYS, now that you are done lecturing me... I give you our selections for the best of the best in the opening month of 2018:

Stipe Miocic

At UFC 220, in the most anticipated IFC Heavyweight Championship bout od all time, Miocic dominated the power punching Francis Ngannou for 5 rounds to retain his belt. The victory being his 3rd consecutive succesful title defense, Stipe broke Cain Velasquez's previous record of 2 consecutive.

Fight of the Month:

Jeremy Stephens vs Doo Ho Choi - UFC St Louis

Jeremy Stephens defeated rising Featherweight prospect "Korean Superboy" Doo Ho Choi in January 14. The 7 minute, 24 second brawl earned both competitors Fight of the Night honors, and another Main Event spot for Stephens against Josh Emmett.

Knockout of the Month:

Calvin Kattar KO's Shane Burgos - UFC 220

Kattar shined in the biggest opportunity of his career with a beautifully violent KO of Shane Burgos on the PPV main card at UFC 220.

Submission of the Month:

Darren Elkins submits Michael Johnson - UFC St Louis

While it may not have been the most difficult-to-pull-off submission, Elkins continued his crazy run with an extremely impressive win over Michael Johnson. The victory at UFC St Louis extended his win streak to 6.
