This Saturday, the UFC once again visits the Windy City for a great night of fights. Between 2 (sorta) belts on the line, a probable title eliminator, among others, there’s a lot to look forward to. Be sure to keep checking in as we write more in-depth articles over these major storylines heading into UFC 225.
1. Whittaker looks to defend
Since the GSP debacle of winning and then vacating, Whittaker, the then interim champion, has assumed the undisputed belt. He won that belt against the man that will oppose him again on Saturday night, Yoel “Soldier of God” Romero. A win for Whittaker establishes himself as the man to beat at 185, while a win for Romero is yet another of a long list of accomplishments in combat sports.
2. The (sorta) 170 lb. strap is on the line!
Before the Middleweight belt is contested, the likely unanimously most hated fighter on the roster, at least 170 lbs and up, Colby Covington faces off against former Lightweight champion Rafael Dos Anjos for the interim belt while Tyron Woodley, who is supposedly almost ready to return, is on the sidelines. Covington is fighting against a nation that wants him dead for his previous remarks regarding Brazilians, while RDA is vying for his second UFC belt in as many weight classes.
3. The beginning of Women’s Featherweight minus Cyborg
Another marquee fight this Saturday is the UFC debut of Megan Anderson. She is seen by many as one of the few women on the planet that can stand toe-to-toe with current champion Cris Cyborg and she faces stiff completion in Holly Holm, Cyborg’s biggest test of her UFC career. This, along with the casting of Women’s Featherweight in the upcoming and possibly final season of TUF, it seems that there is a real movement being made by the UFC to actually build a division at 145 instead of having 135ers come up to be slaughtered by Cyborg.
